I have never been more excited for a YC event as I am for YC 2017! In case you haven’t heard; WE ARE MOVING to a new location and to a new weekend. Starting next year, YC will take place in Red Deer Alberta at the Enmax Centrium and Westerner Park and it’s all going to happen on the May long weekend!
On May 20-22, 2017, Saturday through Monday afternoon, YC will continue its journey back in the very place where it all began some 23 years ago. We will be starting around 4:00 PM on Saturday and ending around 1:00 PM on Monday. We hope these new times will make it easier for Leaders to get their Students to YC and back home at a more relaxed pace. In addition to that, Friday night youth ministries do not have to be disrupted nor will there be as much school to miss.
There are some great features that come with this venue, one being that most of our conference will be under one roof. Westerner Park is a unique property and offers us some great opportunities for additional side stages and breakout sessions that will fit well with our vision.
Our theme for YC 2017 is RISE.
I love the overcomer stories in the bible. They inspire me and give me hope. Gideon overcame the Midianites, David overcame Goliath, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego overcame the fiery furnace but not one of them accomplished this on their own. God was with them and God is with this generation too as they face incredible resistance and pressure to conform to a culture contrary to their values.
In the Old Testament, the Lord had shown Ezekiel a valley of dry bones and asked, “Can these bones become living people again?” And then he told him “Speak to these dry bones and say, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life…So I spoke the message as He commanded me and they all came to life and stood up on their feet – a great army” (Ezekiel 37) That’s exactly what I’m praying for, that we would speak a prophetic message of life to this generation, that they would know that the power of God in them enables them to rise above their doubts, their pain, their failures, and their fears so that they would be able to walk in the identity and authority of Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote “And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your immortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you…Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?…No, despite all the things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Romans 8) What a message of hope we get to share! I have a feeling this is going to be one of our best YC’s ever.
We loved being in Edmonton but it was time to say goodbye to Rexall and the 17 years of incredible memories we shared there. We really believe the Lord has a great plan for our ministry and for the many YC’s that are yet to come. I look forward to seeing you all at YC 2017!
